Garth Brooks was an up-and-coming country musician in the early 90’s. He shot to fame and stayed there for awhile before taking time off to be with his family. Now…he is back! He is playing 6 shows in Buffalo and my sister and I have tickets. I love Garth, not just because I’ve heard what a great performer he is (and I’ve heard he’s pretty amazing), but because I love his music. Even if you don’t like country music (keep it to yourself), you can still appreciate the lyrics of some of his songs:
“And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes”
I just think that’s how you should love someone; so they know how much you love them every day.
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance
Is heartache worth never falling in love? Garth doesn’t seem to think so and neither do I. You can’t learn what real love is until you experience what it is not. Sometimes, that means thinking you’re in love and getting your heart broken.
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you’re talkin’ to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn’t answer doesn’t mean he don’t care
Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
I used to pray I would marry my high school boyfriend. I thank God for that unanswered prayer.
“You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin’ as it flows
And a dreamer’s just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what’s behind you
And never knowing what’s in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores”
We never know where life is going to take us and sometimes it’s hard to keep going.
“Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you’re standing outside the fire”
The first time I saw the music video for this song, I cried. I shows a mentally disabled boy training for and running in a track and field race and in the middle of the race, he falls. Watch the video to see the ending. If you don’t cry, you’re not human.
Without risk, there can be no reward.
So…with all that being said…I am SUPER excited to go to his concert tonight. Bring me two pina coladas and let’s cheers to Garth Brooks.
