Workout Adjustments

As most of you know, I have been trying to get my butt in shape and tone up.  Back before the half marathon Mike and I were getting up at 5 a.m. every day to get to the gym.  Since the half marathon (Memorial Day Weekend), we just can’t seem to get back into the habit.  It seems every other night Mike gets a call in the middle of the night and leaves for an hour or so, or I’m up all night fighting with the dog for room to sleep in my own bed.  Needless to say, come 5 a.m., the snooze button is more appealing than the gym.  So, with the lack of gym time I’ve been logging, I’ve really had to up my game when it comes to eating healthy.  The problem though is that I LOVE food.

I am on MyFitnessPal and according to the site, I need to eat 1220 calories to maintain my current weight.  Do you have any idea how few 1220 calories is?  Normally I workout so I can eat more, but having not been going to the gym and the wedding only 4 months away, I’ve had to start making cuts in my diet. This week when I went grocery shopping I loaded up on the veggies and salads.  I hate veggies and salads.  I find them bland and unsatisfying.  So, after 4 days of salads for lunch and veggies and meat for dinner, I started brainstorming…

Mike and I started going to the gym in the mornings because our evenings are pretty busy.  However, I realized that I do not need to devote a full hour to working out. Further, I don’t need to go to the gym to get a good workout in.  The other morning I got up at 6, went downstairs and worked out on my elliptical for a ½ hour.  The next morning, I decided to sleep a little longer and I got my workout in by walking around downtown on my lunch break.  I get an hour lunch, but only walked for a ½ hour.  I walked 2 miles in a ½ hour.  No bad.  Additionally, I’ve been doing my wall sits and working out with the dumbbells in our living room during those few moments when I do have some downtime.  I finally realized that all of those little things add up.  I realized that I don’t have to set aside  2 hours to workout hard in order to burn calories, I can do a few little things throughout the day.  So, that’s what I’m doing.  This morning I worked out on the elliptical and therefore, I had a sandwich for lunch.  It was scrumptious! Bye bye bland salad.
